The first news of this year 2011 is the rumor of the renowned British newspaper, Financial Times, that a partnership between Daimler (Mercedes, Smart and Maybach) and Aston Martin could be realized.
In this agreement, Aston Martin would undertake to build models of the ultra luxury brand of Mercedes, Maybach. In exchange, the small British manufacturer has technology on engines and Mercedes would have access to the latest advanced. This partnership would be beneficial to both brands because it would create economies of scale difficult to achieve on luxury markets (Aston Martin) and the ultra luxury (Maybach). Also note, Maybach is not doing very well and its sedans to 400 000 € is not selling well at the same time, saw its sales Aston Martin decline.
Both manufacturers say the talks be no guarantee of an agreement. However, we must not forget that the concept of Aston Martin Lagonda, unveiled at Geneva 2009 was built on a Mercedes chassis. Among the rumors, including issues of a future Lagonda SUV based on the Mercedes GL.
